On the 15th of June, 2022 we welcomed our honored guests and readers for the formal Opening Day of the Ukrainian library in Luxembourg!
Literature is the significant part of the Ukrainian culture. We, Ukrainians, can’t live without reading. The initiative of LUkraine asbl to create the library for Ukrainian refugees came naturally, when more and more children and their parents started arriving to Luxembourg fleeing from the war.
Any great idea can not be implemented without supporters and people who invest their energy and enthusiasm into it.
Luxembourg city generously offered its premises to the Ukrainian community. It was the first and very important step to start this project.
What library is without books? We received first 50 books from the Ukrainians who live in Luxembourg. In April 2022, the president of LUkraine asbl Nikolas Zharov brought 280 books which were donated by the City of Lviv Ukraine.
The Ministry of Education, Children and Youth of Luxembourg initiated the process of finding financial support and providing equipment for the library. Under the permanent supervision of Mr. Pierre Reding, the First Government Councilor and Head of the Directorate General for Integration, and endless support of Mrs. Angelique Quintus, Service de la scolarisation des enfant etrangers, we have been making our dream - the Ukrainian library – come true.
A great support was given to our Library by multiple sponsors: BIL, ROOM Sarl, Ziffer Group, RuHelp, Ukraine based Library Krajina Foundation, Institute Français Luxembourg, Italian library, and other companies and individuals.
With their help we have equipped the library with furniture, books and table games so necessary to make this project live. Thanks to all of our supporters, there is a place in Luxembourg where Ukrainians can borrow books, meet and talk.
Although the formal Opening Day was on the 15th of June, 2022, the library actually opened its doors for the Ukrainian community back in April, 2022.
You are welcome to our library on weekdays from 12:00 till 19:00. Address: 276 Rollingergrund, L-2441, Luxembourg
