Thanks to the support of the Honorary Consul to Uruguay, Mr. Alexis Kamarowsky, more than 110 Latin American works of art are currently exhibited in the Cultural Center of the Abbaye of Neumünster in the historic center of the capital, the Grund.
During his speech, Mr. Alexis Kamarowsky payed tribute to Latin America’s artists such as the Uruguayan painter José Gurvich, a disciple of Joaquin Torres Garcia, founder of the “Constructive Universalist School”. Gurvich's paintings reflect the influence and symbols of different cultures that make up Latin American society. His painting is filled with the imaginary worlds and icons of Jewish influence as 'Cosmic Man' or 'the Couple'. The influence of Goya, Velazquez, Bosch and Brueghel is also striking in his work.
According to the organisers of this event, the Latin American sense of aesthetics in arts still remains to be discovered in Europe. In their view, art is the best vehicle for an intercultural dialogue between the peoples.
All proceeds go to the Croix-Rouge of Luxembourg and SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde.
